Who I Am...

I am the sprints, relays, and horizontal jumps coach for American River College in Sacramento, CA.  I have held this position for 4 years.  I currently hold a USATF Level II certification in the sprins & hurdles.  I also train several athletes in their quest to further their competitive careers.  I utilize a training philosophy in which I use speed to increase endurance, and turnover without changing the running form needed in the sprints.  By cutting down on recovery you can improve speed endurance and not sacrifice speed technique. We also have a weight training regiment that is assisting in our goal to remain fast but strong!  Our main emphasis is the Olympic Lift regiment for explosive response and improved strength.  I personally swear by the program we utilize at One on One Fitness with strength coach Al Garcia.  Our 4 year union has provided us with a fantastic strength training base from which to branch out and improve. We have enjoyed a successful program based on this philosophy but the key is the mentality of the athlete...A "Savage" mentality...survival and domination at all cost.  In essence, the sprint mentality is one of confidence, drive, ambition, hard work, coachability, sacrifice, and goal setting!  In order to arrive at a destination, one must first experience the journey.  A sprinter does not simply arrive, their journey is more important than the destination.  Improvement is what alerts a sprinter that they are on the right path.  The "Savage" mentality is to constantly seek out this "affirmation"...through training and coaching...on a repetitive basis....Not everyone will accept this style of coaching...therefore the term Savage implies that a select few can be called "Savage."
